Römer

The Römer is since 1405 Frankfurt’s city hall, one of the oldest and finest of Germany. Long ago it has become an international known landmark of Frankfurt and is still the office of the Lord Mayor. The Römerberg, the town hall square, as center of the historic district has served since the Middle Ages as a stage for important events. Major Frankfurt fairs as well as the election and coronation of the German kings took place on the Römerberg.

The Kaisersaal is probably the most famous room of the Römer. It is located on the second floor of the building and is a great tourist attraction, as this is where the coronation ceremonies were held during the Holy Roman Empire. Today it houses a unique collection of portraits of all the emperors of the 19th century.
But also the Roman Hall and the Swan Hall are very popular. After more than 600 years they are the only two halls that have remained almost untouched over the centuries. Once the first Frankfurt Book Fairs were held here!

Every year, one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany takes place in front of the picturesque backdrop of the Römerberg. Between carefully decorated stalls and the big Christmas tree, the most beautiful time of the year can be heralded in perfectly.
