Botanical Garden

The Loki Schmidt Garden is the Botanical Garden of the University of Hamburg and offers a peaceful green retreat in Klein Flottbek, away from the busy city centre. Covering around 24 hectares, the garden is home to a wide variety of plants from different parts of the world.

Themed garden areas showcase plant life from regions including Europe, Asia and the Americas. Visitors can also explore a large garden of useful plants, ponds and water features, an alpine garden and seasonal planting areas. In total, around 10,000 different plant species grow here.

The garden combines botanical research and education with a relaxing setting for walks and quiet moments outdoors. Spring and summer are particularly rewarding times to visit, when many parts of the garden are in full bloom.
