Filmmuseum Düsseldorf

The Film Museum of the state capital Düsseldorf is located in the heart of the old town and was founded in 1993. As an interactive museum, it offers fascinating access to the world of film, from its beginnings to the present.
On an area of 2200 square meters, the permanent exhibition conveys living film history and presents a selection of rare technical equipment, especially from the pre- and early history of cinematography.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Film Museum has an extensive archive, a library and its own cinema with daily film events. It houses one of only three surviving Welte cinema organs from 1929, which is regularly used at silent film screenings.
The museum's collections include some 500,000 photographs, well over 30,000 posters, press booklets, newspaper clippings, reviews, film programs, as well as scripts and dialogue lists for domestic and foreign films and production documents. Another special feature is the shadow play collection, which contains about 500 shadow play figures from the 13th to the 19th century on the history of shadow play, props, accessories and a shadow play stage.
