The funicular railway connects the Dresden districts of Weißer Hirsch (mountain station) and Loschwitz (valley station). The historic funicular was opened in 1895 and celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2015. It is not only the people of Dresden who like to use it as a means of transport to commute between the mountains and the valleys - due to its breathtaking view it is a popular attraction for tourists, because at a maximum speed of 5 m/s the panorama can be enjoyed excellently. On a distance of 547 metres it overcomes a height difference of 95 metres and a maximum gradient of 29%. At the top station there is also a panoramic terrace for the visitors of the mountain railway.
