The Schauinsland lives up to its name - because from the observation tower on the summit, in good weather, the magnificent view extends over Freiburg and the surrounding Black Forest mountains with Feldberg, across the Rhine valley to the Vosges and the Swiss Alps. At 1284 meters, it is Freiburg's local mountain and is only 15 km away from the city. It offers numerous employment opportunities in summer and winter. In addition to long walks and a hike to the summit, a visit to the nearby visitor mine is also possible, and in winter beautiful slopes invite you to ski and toboggan.
The summit is best reached with the Schauinsland cable car. At 3.6 km, it is Germany's longest cable car circulating cable car. It overcomes a difference in altitude of 746 meters and the view from the gondola alone is magnificent. Once you reach the top station, it is only 600 meters to the summit and the observation tower. The café and restaurant "Die Bergstation" provides for your physical well-being after a strenuous hike. Here you can enjoy Baden cuisine with a fantastic view of the surroundings from the viewing terrace.
Arrival by car:
The road leads very close to the top of the mountain (only possible in summer!) The parking lot is near the top station of the cable car. From here it is only a short walk to the summit.
